Transcript Partnership: Opening A Medical Transcription Business With A Partner

If you are a person who enjoys the medical field, yet you don't like the structure of a hospital, medical transcription is a career field possibility. Medical transcription services require licensing and training and it allows you to work from anywhere that you like. If you have a friend who is on the same path as you, opening up a medical transcription business together can help get your personal business off the ground. To open a transcription business with a friend, there are a few steps that you should take.

Both get certified

To open a medical transcription business you and your partner will first need to become certified. This means that you will need to enroll in a course for medical transcription and receive the proper certification.  There are some courses that offer accelerated learning and licensure if you have the time to dedicate to the coursework. Once this step is complete, you will be able to open your medical transcription business to clients. During your time in classes, get your business started by picking a brand name, getting certified with the IRS for your business type, and start setting up goals for your company.

Set up a proper home office

Being able to work medical transcription from home is one of the reasons why many prefer the transcription. Though you can work from home, you will need the appropriate tools and a proper setup. Get desks, chairs, foot pedals, and headphones that meet the requirement to run a quiet office. You will also need to make sure that your computers are up to date with appropriate privacy so that no one else can access the transcription records. Although you will be able to work from home, it will be imperative that you receive low interruptions and have a dedicated workspace.

Stop by medical offices

Nearly every area will have its share of medical offices. With yourself and your friend working together, you can produce short promotional materials and offer your services to medical offices in the area. Call medical offices in your surrounding area to make an appointment to speak with the office staff about taking over their transcriptions. Preparing contracts beforehand and having specific marketing materials available will be key to the success of breaking into the medical transcription field. Finding your own clients as a company will take more legwork than most new transcriptionists have to do, but it can result in long-lasting contracts.
