The two most common types of locks found on a gun safe are electronic locks and combination locks. There are benefits to each type of lock. Electronic Locks Open Faster

If you ever need to open your safe in a hurry due to an intruder in your home or other emergency, you will be happy you selected an electronic lock.  For an electronic lock, you enter a series of numbers, typically four or six, into a keypad. When the combination is entered, the safe unlocks. A combination lock is similar to the spin style locks you have on a locker. You spin the dial one way, enter a number, spin it the other way to the next number in the combination and then spin it back to the last number in a combination. 

Electronic Key Pads Are User Friendly

The last benefit to electronic lock gun safes is that they are user friendly. They are often easier to open, especially for the elderly or those who may shake in an emergency. If you have trouble seeing or have shaky hands, you can easily over rotate a combination lock and fail to open the safe repeatedly. This can be frustrating. Key pads are easier to see and use. 

It Is Easy to Change the Code

The last benefit to an electronic lock gun safe is that you can easily change the code to access the safe. Perhaps an ex spouse knew the code and you want to lock them out or a child possibly found out your code. In order to keep your guns safe, you may want to change the code. Most electronic locks have a reset button that allows you to change the code with a single push of the button. This is not the case with a combination lock. Generally, you have to change out the enter locking mechanism to change the code on a gun safe with a combination lock.
